Supporting our community
during COVID-19 crisis

For almost a year now, we, as most charities, have suffered from being unable to take part in any of the usual fund-raising activities and many of the community activities we enjoy attending. However, as Judith Hagger, our Club President, said: “the pandemic is affecting all of us in lots of different ways but, just because we are all social distancing doesn’t stop us, as Lions, from caring - we are doing what we can.”

An area that we identified early on was an increasing pressure on food banks from more people in need of help in the community.  We have, therefore, concentrated our efforts on assisting the two main foodbanks in our area, Preens in Biggleswade & The Need Project in Stotfold, although this hasn’t stopped us helping others around.

Helping us to help the food banks we extend thanks for grants received from our Lions International Foundation, Lions Clubs British Isles, John Laing Charitable Trust &, importantly, of course, donations from our local community.  We have so far donated in excess of £5000 divided equally between the two. .

We keep a close connection with both food banks, and will, hopefully, be able to help again in the months ahead.

When a humanitarian crisis strikes, the Lions Clubs Foundation of the British Isles works with and are guided by their own Lions members who are ordinary people actively working at the heart of their communities.
