Wicksteed Park
Planning for Wicksteed starts around mid-January when local organisations and professionals who help and support families and young people needing that little extra support in their lives are contacted by us. We ask them to talk to their clients to enquire if they would like a day out to relax, have fun and leave their cares behind for that day! Gradually, numbers come together. On the day, specially chartered coaches pick up at Biggleswade, Sandy and Potton to arrive at Wicksteed about 10.30/11am. Also, a mini bus of young carers or children with special needs arrives. All on board have been given tickets & wristbands, by the accompanying Lions, for free rides on the amusements. Both parties are welcomed by the early bird Lions standing in the car park, waving like mad and telling them when to return for the picnic lunch we also provide.
Everyone races off to cram as many rides as possible into the remainder of the morning before meeting back at the coach area for the picnic lunch. Then it's back to the fun of rides and ice creams and perhaps for some, a welcomed cuppa. Home time comes all too soon about 4pm, when the coaches are refilled with happy, sleepy children and adults who look relaxed and give us a smile as they say, 'What a great day, thanks. we've all enjoyed ourselves.'
